Mt. Bromo is a must-visit when traveling through Java! However, please note that weekends get extremely busy. A Jeep rental costs around 1 million IDR, or a shared jeep can be around 300k. Parc tickets are 50k–80k IDR for locals and 200k–250k IDR for international tourists. The Jeep tour takes about a full hour to reach the sunrise point, followed by a short walk up the hill. I highly recommend arriving early (03.00) and wearing very warm clothes—it was extremely cold at just 6°C! There are some local warungs that sell warm drink and snacks. Also rental jackets ect. For us it was very busy and too cold, still it was worth every single second. The stunning sunrise and the small, occasional "volcanic burps" made it truly special. On the way back, we took some time to explore the vast Sea of Sand surrounding the crater. All in all, a fantastic experience!

Oh beautiful.... Unexpected. Although rather raw as the facilities for tourists are falling behind, but it's probably where the excitement sits. Prices are low such as horse riding. They takes good care of the horses.

Excellent experience but hugely recommend doing this independently without a tour. The tour spots were hideously busy and rushed. From Bali: - Bus to Banyuwangi where you can do Ijen by yourself (recommended to stay at Bobocabin, which you can reach by grab and from there you can hike directly up Ijen) - Grab to Banyuwangi train and get train to Probolinggo and then grab to Bromo (Cemoro Lawang) - you can also get grab the whole way for 1m IDR. - Stay at Cayho Homestay. Literally the same views available here as all the sunrise viewpoints so if you’re feeling lazy you can just look at the sunrise from the hotel (pics of the views from here below). Very affordable. - If you want to do the sunrise viewpoints, please either walk or motorbike to “Homestay Pak Suyon Seruni Point”, and then walk up towards King Kong viewpoint from there (about 20 mins hiking). On the way up this hike there are so many secret viewpoints for sunrise that the tours don’t go to - they all drive directly to King Kong viewpoint on another route so they don’t even know these places exist. Stop at any of these cute cliffside viewpoints (which are just as good as the road access ones like King Kong) and font even bother trying to reach any of the viewpoints you’ll see on the map (all extremely busy) but you can you them as a guide for the route to find other secret viewpoints. We could see those viewpoints from our secret spots and honestly there are thousands of people there all we saw were beacons of light from all the torches at the tour group viewpoints. I felt bad for them. - After sunrise all these hundreds of jeeps race into the crater to do the Bromo crater walk - again it was horrendous to see. Instead, because we stayed there - we waited until the afternoon when all the jeeps are gone and just walked up ourselves and had the place to ourselves with as much time and peace as we needed. - The sunrise viewpoints and the crater walk are both walkable directly from Cayho Homestay. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - There are a good selection of restaurants in town so you won’t be stuck for dining options.

Wonderful spiritual pilgramage place, magnificent to see nature and experience a live volcano from the crater. The walk to the volcano is not too challenging but doable and your efforts are rewarded once you make it to the top. Thank you to all the visitors for keeping the place clean and disposing of your rubbish properly.
