Such a great little place! I stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon for a quick coffee. They had an extensive menu with lots of food options. I ordered an iced Americano and bitterballen for a light snack. Then, my eyes immediately got caught to their "ayam woku" which was uncommon to find in cafes. Unexpectedly, I dare say that Lapidoth's ayam woku is the best I've had so far in Malang. The chicken falls-off-the-bone tender, the "dabu-dabu" fresh and spicy, and the seasoning well balanced. This place (and the dish) deserves more hype!
View on GoogleCame for the 'all-white' aesthetic, stayed for the vibes! This cafe is perfectly located near the Alun-Alun and right behind a hotel. Very convenient! 📍 I tried the Blueberry Cheesecake. It’s definitely got that homemade touch—soft texture and a perfectly thin crust. I realized I’m personally not a 'white cream' person, but if you are, you’ll probably love this more than I did. Overall, it's a tasty treat! Price-wise, it’s a little 'premium,' likely due to the central location, but overall it’s a fair deal. Perfect spot for a quick break! ☕✨ The Breakdown: Tranquility: 4/5 🧘♂️ Atmosphere: 4.6/5 🏡 Internet: 4.6/5 🚀 Taste: 4.5/5 😋
View on GoogleA recent visit to Lapidoth Cafe & Patisserie in Malang revealed a delightful blend of ambiance, flavor and architectural charm. The café nestles within the Hotel Pelangi Malang building, lending a Dutch‐heritage aesthetic that immediately captures attention—vintage walls and large windows create a gentle, relaxed mood. Many patrons highlighted that the setting alone makes it “an attraction itself”. On the menu, the selection spans Western mains, Indonesian adaptations and an array of desserts and pastries that impress by both variety and portion size. The smoky tuna or salmon dish with chili sauce and papaya leaves stood out for its bold flavor. Smoothies similarly earned praise for being balanced—fruity with coconut undertones and not overly sweet, which is a welcome nuance. Service and environment score high: friendly, prompt, and ultimately conducive for work or casual gathering. One reviewer described the place as “really quiet” and well‐suited for conversation. On the flip side, some dishes such as the burger and steak were perceived as a little average compared to the dessert standouts, and pricing edges toward the higher side given the added hotel context. Looking ahead, a few refinements could elevate the experience further. Optimising mains to match the excellence of the pastries—perhaps by enhancing sauce complexity or adjusting seasoning—would create a more balanced offering. Ensuring portion consistency and visible value for mains helps justify the premium. A streamlined queue or reservation system during peak hours could address the crowding noted by some guests. Also, further cultivating the café’s heritage ambiance—perhaps through curated lighting or subtle Dutch architectural storytelling—would deepen its unique identity and boost appeal for both locals and visitors. In sum, Lapidoth Cafe & Patisserie delivers an elegant, comfortable café experience anchored in tasteful décor and standout dessert craftsmanship. With minor tuning of its savory offerings and operational flow, it’s poised to become a definitive café destination in Malang.
View on GoogleA nice little place with tasty drinks and snacks, though the business practices are a bit questionable. We had the Pandan Cendol, Lapidoth Milk Coffee, Smoothie Bowl and caramel french toast - as well as some mineral water. They charge 30k for a small bottle of mineral water without telling you, which is more than all of their coffee drinks etc. On top, they add taxes and a sizeable service charge to everything even though that’s not common practice in Indonesia. So nice place, but the predatory business practices leave you with a sour taste…it’s a shame to see an otherwise pleasant place be ruined by greed.
View on GoogleAn excellent place to hangout and chat with friends or family. Located in the heart of Malang. Its attached to Pelangi hotel, a Dutch architecture style building. An attraction for foreign tourists and locals. The cafe is an attraction itself. The menu is vary from semi western dish and local cuisine as well as coffee and sweet Indonesian desserts. There are kids menu available too. Reasonable prices and quick service. Street paid parking available.
