I recently visited a charming family-run eatery during my trip, and I must say the mie ayam (chicken noodle) was absolutely delightful — the noodles were springy without being too firm, the shredded chicken topping richly seasoned, and the broth subtly savoury, balanced just right. What truly elevated the meal, however, was the Lumpia Semarang — its filling was moist yet not greasy, boasting a perfect marriage of bamboo shoot, shredded chicken, and delicate spices, all wrapped in a crisp yet tender spring roll. I’ve tried many versions in various cities, but this was among the finest: authentic and deeply satisfying. (Lumpia Semarang is traditionally made with re-bung, egg, dried shrimp and chicken, wrapped in a crepe-like skin.) Equally memorable was the Fosco, a regional beverage I encountered (famous especially in Malang), served in a retro glass bottle reminiscent of an old Coke bottle. It is, essentially, a chilled chocolate-milk drink, but with a slight savoury twist that prevents it from being cloying. The balance between sweet and creamy, with a hint of richness, makes it an excellent palate cleanser between mouthfuls of rich noodle or fried snack. The ambience of the place added that final flourish: comfortable and unpretentious, it has the feel of a home rather than a restaurant, making it ideal for families or travellers seeking genuine local character. Beyond those highlights, the menu offers a nice variety of other local favourites — simple steamed rice dishes, vegetable sides, perhaps snacks like risoles or tahu isi, and assorted drinks. For a foreign visitor keen to sample authentic Indonesian flavours in a relaxed, welcoming setting, this spot represents excellent value and memorably good food. I heartily recommend a stop here for any traveller exploring local cuisine.
View on GoogleThe place is pretty small (probably around 8 tables) so expect waiting. I even had to share a table with some people. The service was good. The food was good. I ordered the Pangsit Cwi Mie Ayam. I didn't order the lumpia semarang, but the people that I shared a table with said that their lumpia is the best. They closed early, around 1.30 pm. So don't come any later than that. Cash and QRIS payment are accepted.
View on GoogleOne of legendary food place at Pasar Besar area. They specialized innoodle based menu, but don't forget to try their Lumpia, made with Smarang style. I had Cwie Mie ayam and Lumpia for take home. All taste good.
View on GoogleEverything here tastes great, and their vosco drink is outstanding. I’ve eaten here several times, and the food has been consistently good. The spring rolls are delicious, the noodles are decent, and the lomie is also very tasty.
View on GoogleThe restaurant is not that big with around 6-8 tables. Went there before they open at 5 pm and quite a number of people already waiting outside the restaurant. Once open, the tables are all filled up. Ordered 2 bowls of noodles and 1 bottle of chocolate milk. The noodles are very thin which is not my favourite type of noodles, however, they are delicious. As for the chocolate milk in bottle, it taste very good but too sweet. Overall is a good experience to try this famous place.
