The journey to the Ngebung Cluster was highly enjoyable, featuring a scenic, uphill drive surrounded by lush forests. Right next to the museum stands the Triangulation Monument, marking the highest point in the Sangiran area. This monument honors the exact location where G.H.R. von Koenigswald discovered the first prehistoric stone flake tools in 1934, effectively putting Sangiran on the global scientific map. This cluster focuses heavily on the history of the researchers themselves. It showcases various scientific theories regarding human origins and provides a fascinating look into the atmosphere, tools, and archaeological methodologies of early excavations. It was here that I learned Raden Saleh, famously known as a pioneer of Indonesian painting, was also actually Indonesia’s very first archaeologist. Another fascinating takeaway was the local folklore about 'Balung Buto', which translates to 'Giant Bones.' This term used by the villagers makes perfect sense when connected to the timeline from the previous museums, since Earth's geological formations span over 4 billion years and have undergone drastic ecological shifts, it is logical that massive, giant sized fauna once roamed this region. However, I must be honest, after already spending over 5 hours exploring the previous two clusters, my energy was running low. Because this museum is so text heavy and dense with historical theories, I found myself getting quite sleepy. It wasn't because the content was uninteresting, but simply due to pure fatigue from a long day of traveling. Sangiran Ngebung Cluster is an incredible historical site, but to truly appreciate it, my biggest advice is to pace yourself. Trying to squeeze all the clusters into one continuous rush can be overwhelming. Take a moment to rest, enjoy the surrounding nature, and grab a bite or a drink at the nearby local stalls before heading inside.

Easily accessible, was surprised to find out that this museum is well organized. Highly educative/informative about the history of human ancestors. Need to allocate a few hours here if you want to read every single details/story. Recommended place to visit with family.

I love history and archeology. Thats why i love this place. The museums were informative and designed in a way that made you enjoy the displays well. The downside of this place was that they didnt have shuttle bus or transportation to take you between all museums so that you have to rent a car or arrange your own transportation in order to get into all over the compounds

This museum is really well designed and concept is good, most statues were made alike and in great quality. Went there in early 2019. Place was Packed, lots of people with very limited parking lot which caused the entrance jammed. The location of this museum is a bit far from the city and located with very little access of public transportation nor taxi. I hope the government will take a good care of this place, because if not, this place will be abandoned with lots of garbages, and hope the visitors will respect this place by keeping it clean.

One of the best museums in Indonesia!!!! The best time to come: avoid holiday and weekends craze. Indonesian tend to flock this place around June-July holiday and on weekends. We came here on a Friday and it was already a bit crowded. Visit from early opening hour to also avoid packed rooms & parking space. The best way to enjoy the exhibitions: hire their tour guide! It's a must even if you just come with your partner. You can ask for tour guide in the entrance area where you buy the ticket. Fee for tour guide is not stated but I say around IDR 50,000 if you come in a small group of 3-4 and more if you come in larger group because they offer a really good explanation and they can answer all of your curiosities related to the exhibitions. They will guide you through the best route to enjoy the exhibitions and offer best place to take pictures or not take picture. Totally professional. I learned so much from our tour guide and imagine that my trip would be so dull and boring without the tour guide. The best way to travel there: By car or motorcycle or a small minibus. Big bus is not recommended. No local bus will take you up to the gate of the museum. The place is located not in the city area but more to the outskirt though it's not a quiet one. Small roads (many are not in good conditions) and heavy traffic are to be expected. Rely on Google Map if you never come here but make sure you type the name correctly since they have more than 3 prehistoric museums around the same area. What to see here: A collection of local prehistoric fossils and mostly in human evolution. They arrange the exhibition in a way for us to understand the evolution of prehistoric life. What you won't see: dinosaurs fossils. So don't be angry when you can't find one. You still can to find other interesting prehistoric animals fossils though. In summary: A MUST VISIT !!! When you are in Semarang or Solo or even Jogja, visit this museum!!!!
