Pawon Temple is a small yet historically meaningful stop, a temple from the 9th century, especially as part of the sacred alignment with Mendut and Borobudur. The site is easy to access and has been well rehabilitated, making it clean and pleasant to explore. While the original Buddha statue, believed to represent a king of the Medang Kingdom, is no longer present, the temple still carries a quiet charm. Set in the middle of a suburban village, it offers a more low-key atmosphere compared to the larger temples nearby. Do be prepared for some persistent souvenir sellers, but overall, it’s a nice and worthwhile visit.

My guide brought me here while waiting for Borobudur to open. This is a smaller Buddhist Candi. If you wanna enter the small temple ground and the temple interior, you have to pay 10k rupiah (i paid to the security guard). You are also allowed to meditate here. The temple info signs are located slight furthur from the temple and they have English translation. However, this Candi is surrounded by souvenirs shops. During my visit I was bombarded by persistent salesman and story owners to buy souvenirs from them which makes the visit unpleasant. The items are marked up anyway (regardless of nationality, and they don't bargain).

Sailendra Dynasty Heritage Temples Worth Visiting as part of pilgrimage of holy nexus between Borobudur,Pawon,Mendut temple. These particular temple shows beautiful carvings and reliefs, along with classic Javanese architecture. You can perform _pradaksina_ : Before entering the gate entrance, please remove your shoes/sandals. Place your hands together at your chest, palms touching 🙏[circumambulation] Start from the front of the temple, then walk around the temple clockwise, keeping your right shoulder facing the temple. While doing _pradaksina_, keep your mind focused by repeating: _May all living beings be happy._ [repeat it] Circle the temple 3 times. When you return to the front, keep your hands joined, then raise your hands to your head and bow 3 times. By doing pradaksina you will be giving the highest respect, which brings much nobility and good karma. May all living beings be happy. Sadhu, Sadhu, Sadhu x3 *Note:* Complete the pradaksina first before looking around or buying anything from the noisy, persistence souvenir sellers. If you’re not interested, just be firmly say “NO”.

A small Buddhist temple with a low fence surrounded by a small road (entry ticket: IDR 10,500.-) not so far from the world-famous Borobudur temple. Actually it's free as long as you don't enter the fence. I wanted to pay the entry ticket, but the ticket box was vacant (the ticket guy came up from somewhere after someone called him). Not much to see (unless you're an expert). There was even nothing in the chamber inside the temple (no lingga+yoni or statue). Local shops around the temple offer gifts and souvenirs. A very small parking shelter for one or two motorbikes. No parking lot for cars and restroom of its own, and a local resident's house offers paid parking and restroom. No musholla, but 90 m away is a clean two-floor mosque (Al-Mujahidin).

We visited this small temple near Borobudur. There is a single building which can be viewed from outside without a ticket. There were some persistent street vendors here which was rather unpleasant. Otherwise, the luwak coffee place across the road is worth a visit.
