Mendut Temple is a charming and historically rich site, though relatively small compared to nearby landmarks. During my visit, the main structure was under renovation, so access and views were somewhat limited - but you can still appreciate the intricate stone carvings and the sense of history around the temple The real highlight, surprisingly, is the magnificent banyan tree within the grounds. It’s huge, with cascading roots and a striking presence that almost steals the show. Walking around it feels peaceful and grounding, and it offers great photo opportunities

The site is clean and well maintained, making it a meaningful stop when exploring the area. I visited Mendut Temple, a ninth-century Buddhist temple located in Mendut village, Mungkid. Unfortunately at the time of the visit the site is still under reconstruction process to maintain its structural safety. The temple lies about 3 km east of Borobudur Temple and, together with Pawon Temple, forms a straight line of three historic temples. Though smaller and more singular in scale, the temple is highly interesting. Its main highlight is the impressive 3-meter seated statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, accompanied by the Bodhisattvas Avalokitesvara and Vajrapani, reflecting artistic styles from the middle to late first millennium.

Calming vibes but also sacred made this temple is so special, especially for Buddhist. Was there for sightseeing but it was renovated and the ticket discount 50% because of that.

Ah such a noice place.. not as grand as Borobudur, but it offers a quieter and more intimate experience. It has lovely garden with Buddha’s statue and majestic stone carvings. Plus point bc the crowd are minimal, so no rushing or crowdedness, definitely enjoy the peace inside this place

Although Candi Mendut is not as large as Borobudur, it holds its own unique charm and historical significance that’s worth exploring. This temple offers a glimpse into Indonesia’s rich Buddhist heritage, and there’s plenty to learn about its history and cultural importance. The area around the temple is spacious, with lush green grass and plenty of trees, creating a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere. Inside the temple, you’ll find a stunning, very large Buddha statue that immediately captures your attention. The interior is surprisingly spacious, with a high ceiling above the statue that adds to the grandeur of the space. Around the temple and on the outer walls of the stairs, you’ll also find intricate Buddhist reliefs that are fascinating to observe. These carvings add to the temple’s spiritual and artistic appeal. One of the best things about Candi Mendut is that the entrance ticket is very affordable, making it accessible to everyone. If you’re visiting Borobudur, I highly recommend stopping by Candi Mendut as well. It’s a quieter and more intimate experience, perfect for those who want to delve deeper into the history and beauty of Javanese Buddhist temples. A must-visit for history buffs, spiritual seekers, and anyone who appreciates cultural landmarks!
