Bukit Barede is a beautiful hidden gem near Borobudur! The viewpoint offers a peaceful atmosphere and stunning panoramic views of the sunrise with Borobudur and Mount Merapi in the distance. It’s much quieter and less crowded than other sunrise spots, which makes the experience more serene and personal. The short hike up is easy and totally worth it for the view at the top. The locals managing the place are friendly, and you can enjoy coffee or tea while waiting for the sunrise. Highly recommended if you want a more intimate sunrise experience near Borobudur!

Amazing place to watch the sunrise. Depending on weather you can see Mt. Merapi on the left. The valley covered in fog also looks impressive. If you come here to see Borobudur, you might be disappointed. The temple is about 2km away and there's vegetation in-between. The fog also covered a significant part of the valley when we were there. So all we've seen was a corner of it peak out of the forest. Up to you whether you want to wake up this early for a visit.

Cool viewpoint to catch the sunset if it’s clear, with a view of Borobudur temple from a distance and the best part was that the sun came up from behind the volcano. Bit of a weird place to get to if you make your own way as it’s not super crowded or popular just yet, so you feel like you’ve pulled up in the middle of nowhere when the taxi drops you off. But it’s up a path to the ticket booth and up some steps and you’re greeted with a free coffee (or tea) from a little shack, and some friendly locals and a beautiful and well maintained garden area spot next to the jungle with such an amazing view. Would recommend sorting out a driver or booking a return taxi back to town/or elsewhere in advance if you do visit by making your own way there and not via a tour.

I bought it as an add-on for the visit of Borobudur, but it turned out to be amazing. There were not too many people. It's calm and meditative. The view was stunning, coffee good and staff very lovely. On the way back, we were surprised by a small group of men playing music and letting us join the show. Very lovely!

What an amazing experience. Easy climb to the viewing point and to watch the sunrise was magical. The day we went was Eid al-Adha. Not sure if it was just because of the holiday or the time of the morning but the entire sunrise you could hear prayers echoing up from the mist covered valley. It was surreal and truly a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget. Borobudur Temple is pretty far away so not huge to look at but when the light hits it, it’s beautiful.
