A satisfying stop for local Semarang food. The nasi gandul at Nasi Gandul Pak Memet is affordable and very filling, with plenty of beef topping options if you like more variety in your bowl. I also liked adding fried tempe and perkedel on the side. It does get crowded once it opens in the late afternoon, so going earlier seems like a smart move.
View on GoogleNasi Gandul Pak Memet was already crowded when I arrived, even though it had just opened. I was lucky to still get a parking spot, but it is definitely something to keep in mind because the place gets busy quickly. The good thing is that the staff asked us to sit first, and a waiter came over to take the order, so it did not feel too chaotic. While waiting, I tried the fried tempeh, and honestly it was exactly the kind I like: thin, dry, crispy, savory, and really good with the curry-like gravy. Considering how crowded it was, getting the food in around 10–15 minutes felt pretty fast. For people from Jakarta or Bandung, nasi gandul might remind you of gultik, but with a more normal portion size and more topping choices. I chose beef, braised egg, and intestines. The gravy really does feel similar to gultik, but with a slight sweetness that balances the savory flavor well. The beef was tender, the innards were clean and not gamey, and the seasoning was not too overpowering, so everything worked nicely with the gravy. The rice was slightly on the drier side, which actually made it perfect for soaking up the sauce without turning mushy. The sambal was also a nice addition, with just the right level of heat, and for me the dish would feel incomplete without it. Combined with the crispy tempeh, the whole meal had a really satisfying mix of textures and flavors. Price-wise, I think it is very reasonable for the portion, the authentic taste, and the overall experience. Definitely worth trying, especially if you enjoy traditional comfort food with real local character.
View on GoogleNasi Gandul Pak Memet is a great and comfortable place to enjoy a satisfying dinner, especially for those who appreciate traditional Indonesian flavors. The overall atmosphere feels relaxed and welcoming, making it a pleasant spot to dine in the evening. During my visit, I ordered two plates to fully experience the menu. The first plate was nasi gandul with lidah koyor, which was tender, rich, and full of deep, savory flavor that paired beautifully with the signature gravy. The meat was cooked properly and absorbed the seasoning very well. For the second plate, I chose iso telor, which was also well-prepared and evenly seasoned. The texture was enjoyable and worked nicely with the rich sauce. Crispy fried tempeh was served as a side, adding a crunchy contrast that balanced the meal nicely. The dining experience became even more enjoyable with live music, creating a cozy and memorable atmosphere. The music was relaxing and enhanced the overall mood without distracting from the food. Service felt friendly and efficient, allowing the meal to flow smoothly throughout the evening. Overall, everything tasted delicious, felt satisfying, and reflected the quality of authentic nasi gandul. Nasi Gandul Pak Memet is highly recommended for a comfortable and flavorful dinner experience.
View on GoogleTried this restaurant when the queue wasn't too long. I choose nasi gandul lidah and it is very good. The portion is small so adults need 2 portion or eat lots of side dishes 😅
View on GoogleComforting nasi gandul in a humble roadside location. The order of things are quite chaotic. Basically you need to find a vacant spot, seat yourselves, and then one of their people will come to your table or you can call their attention to start taking your orders. Their nasi gandul is not too salty, just a bit sweet, and it is savory with some hints of earthy spice/herb flavors. I really enjoyed their gandul broth. The meat was very tender and their tempe is quite special. Thinly sliced, fragrant, and crispy. I also ordered the sandung lamur (brisket) but they gave us too much fat. The braised egg is just so-so in my opinion. The nasi gandul daging is the way to go.
