Rumah Akar in Semarang is a mesmerizing hidden gem! Walking through this historic site feels like entering a real-life fantasy, as the massive, ancient tree roots have intricately intertwined with the decaying colonial walls. It’s an atmospheric masterpiece for photography enthusiasts and those who love unique, hauntingly beautiful architecture. A must-visit if you're exploring the Old Town
View on GoogleI visited Rumah Akar during the Christmas holiday, so there was quite a line for taking photos. The place is quite popular for pictures because of the unique tree roots covering the building. You can either take photos yourself or hire one of the local photographers there who offer photo services. The location is tucked inside a small alley, so it might take a moment to find, but the atmosphere is nice and cool once you get there. There are also a few spots where you can sit and relax for a bit. The staff who take care of the place were friendly as well. I was told that the best time to visit is when the leaves start to fall, which apparently makes the place look even more beautiful, although I’m not exactly sure when that season is. Just a small note for visitors: this place is mainly for taking photos. The inside of the building isn’t accessible and there isn’t really anything inside to explore.
View on GoogleCame here a little later in the evening, it was a little creepy, but surprisingly there were at least two couples hanging out around this area made it a little funny, why did they want to have a date in a dim light alley like this place lol. Anyway, I was amazed by the roots, it created a different vibe in the heart of the city. Love it!
View on GoogleWonderful experience. Historic because of colonial past Belanda
View on GoogleIt's an old alley. It seems to be a famous alley because many people are taking pictures. In particular, wedding photos are often taken here. The tree is unique because it sticks out through the wall.
