I found the session-based entry at Museum Kota Lama really helpful, and the 30-minute guided explanation made the visit much more meaningful. Buying a ticket on the spot was easy, and the information shared gave a good overview of Kota Lama Semarang for anyone curious about the area’s history. It felt like a solid stop for a first visit.
View on GoogleTicket OTS, 10K IDR. There are sessions to enter the museum. You can’t enter before the session starts. There is a guide to explain the museum for 30mins. It is very informative for tourist that wants to know and explore Kota Lama Semarang.
View on GoogleThe wee museum located in the middle of road junction. It looks warm and inviting with modern architecture. It has pretty wide pond with small glasses bridge, could be to attract the crowds who love taking pics to post. On the door, there's information that the tour is currently happening which made us a bit confused, whether or not we can enter. But student there's the guide saying that we can do the tour. The ticket is only 10K. Upon entering, they asked us to remove our shoes. The floor is absolutely clean. The tour guide started explaining. How Semarang looked like back then. There's a miniature boat, that I think is not suitable simply because it's halved, and pasted on the wall, regardless the river video playing in the background, it is still not suitable. The second one, we're brought to a small hidden chamber( by all means, it is really hidden), where we got to see a 7-8 minutes video of Semarang history since before the VOC. The tour continued with a list of timeliness, similar content to the video played previously. Continued with short history about why the museum is build in the middle of the junction. And we got to see the replica of trem.
View on GoogleMarch 2026 The museum is located in the Old Town of Semarang and explained the history of the city and especially the evolution of the neighbourhood. It is located in a route junction, where there were ruins of old Dutch building. The museum is very small. 30-45 minutes is enough to read everything. A guide explains us in bahasa indonesia the history of the museum and the visit starts with a video in the lobby, followed by a 8 minutes video explaining the history of the city of Semarang in an immersive room. Then, we can go through the history from the 16th to the XXI Century. Some artefacts are exposed, as well as an old tramway. Shoes are prohibited - it's a barefoot visit! Payment by cash or Qris.
