If you know, you know - Warung Asem-Asem Koh Liem is the kind of place that quietly earns "legendary" status without ever trying to. The first thing that hits you is the consistency. Every single time, the flavour lands exactly where it should - that perfect balance of tangy, savoury, and subtly sweet. It’s not just good… it's reliably good, which is honestly much harder to achieve than people realise. The texture is just as impressive. The ingredients are always cooked to that precise point where everything holds its shape yet melts effortlessly when you eat it. Nothing is overdone, nothing is underwhelming - it's clearly the result of years (if not decades) of refinement. What makes this place truly special is how difficult it would be to replicate. This isn't a recipe you can just follow off the internet. There's depth, intuition, and a level of mastery behind it that only comes from repetition and tradition. No gimmicks, no shortcuts - just pure, time-tested execution. A proper Semarang classic 👍😊
View on GoogleI was disappointed with the asem-asem, as it was too sweet. I also noticed that several prepared dishes on the table were left uncovered. This makes them vulnerable to flies, dust, and even respiratory droplets from customers who may be coughing nearby. Covering the food would greatly improve hygiene and food safety. I hope the restaurant will pay more attention to these aspects
View on GoogleFast service. All food pre prepared. Asem-asem daging is a bit too sweet for my taste as I am not from central Jawa
View on GoogleKoh Liem's Asem-Asem Food Stall A typical Semarang/Central Javanese dish (asem-asem meat/mixed dish) The taste is delicious and I highly recommend it. There are also other home-style buffet menus available. There are also side dishes like B2 satay and butter-fried frog. For asem-asem and other halal dishes, please visit other Koh Liem branches. Parking is on the side of the road.
View on GoogleI came back after 10 years, and I'm happy to say the taste is just as good as I remembered. The broth has a refreshing sweet-and-sour flavor, and there are plenty of delicious toppings to choose from. I ordered the asem asem campur with perkedel jagung and kekian, and everything was satisfying. The only downside is the parking. There are only two parking spaces available, so if they're full, you'll need to park on the nearby street.
