Sewu Temple was actually a Buddhist temple within the Prambanan Temple complex. It was often overlooked by visitors due to its location further up north. However, it was a stunning ancient temple. This temple also showed how interreligious tolerance had been an integral part of our identity and civilisation in Maritime Southeast Asia, specifically in Java.

A peaceful temple complex near Prambanan that many visitors might overlook. It's quite a long walk from the main Prambanan area, and I only discovered it after seeing photos and the miniature model of the entire area in the Prambanan museum. The area was much quieter and less crowded than the main temple complex, which made for a relaxing visit. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to explore the entire site, but it looked beautiful and worth visiting if you have extra time after Prambanan.

Sewu temple is really amazing. The architecture mesmerizes my eyes. Even there are alot of ruins but the main temple still stands strong. You can go inside the temple. The weather is really hot, make sure to bring umbrella or hat and use sunscreen. However the surroundin area is lush green forest. If you visit Prambanan Temple, make sure to go to the north to this Sewu Temple because the ticket is included. Beautiful.

Like Candi Bubrah and Lumbungan, Candi Sewu is included in the overall ticket price. Free golf cart shuttles also run between Sewu and Prambanan. Since few Indonesian tourists make the effort to come here, this temple is quiet, and you'll almost have it to yourself (for example, for taking photos). Sewu is also surprisingly large and in no way inferior to the more famous Prambanan.
