The museum, founded on 11 September 1982 at the initiative of H Soepardjo Roestam as Governor of Central Java with support from Ur. Waryatmo, President Director of PTP XV- XVI (Persero), became the only sugar museum in Central Java and a distinguishing feature compared with sugar factories left by the Netherlands in other regions. The museum is housed in one of the former colonial homes and was inaugurated by sugar experts from around the world in 1986. This museum holds dozens of types of collections related to the process of making sugar from sugarcane, ranging from the oldest steam engine named B Laha Ye & Brissoneant, made in France in 1884, to well-preserved machines dating from the XIX century. Visitors are also drawn by the collection of forks, knives, Lencek, Lempak, hoes, and sickles used to process the main ingredient of sugar, namely sugarcane. In addition, collections of various types of sugarcane, weeds, farming equipment, typewriters, calculating machines, and photographs of factory activities in the early 1900s are also major museum displays that can mesmerize visitors and immerse them in the atmosphere of the past.
