I think this is one of the most recommended museum in Indonesia. I love what they did to the old sugar factory. It's a good example of heritage building conservation! While the museum itself give us very interesting collection. They definitely have a good museum curator, interior designer and conservation architect. And since this is a government owned building, so this is another example for the government about how to treat government-owned-heritage-building.
View on GoogleVery cool restored sugar cane mill (1862) with a good museum. A lot of preserved cane processing equipment, mostly from the 1910s. The museum (all in English and Indonesian) gives you a good history of the factory's development over time, though it has a strange hagiograpic focus on a local prince associated with it. There's a good model of the main cane crushing line, and one of the whole complex in the late 20th cent. There's a very cool restaurant set in the tooling room, where the tables are mixed in with the historic equipment. There's also a snack stall and clean bathrooms. Bizarrely there's also a lot of antique cars inside and many live owls for photo shoots (????). It's kind of hot inside, but bearable. The facility AC seems to only be turned on for events. Overall it's very pricey for foreigners (100k) and rather far from the city. Definitely worth it for industrial history enthusiasts, but maybe not for general tourists. I went on a Saturday and it was mostly empty. There's a public bus from Solo that goes directly to the factory.
View on GoogleHistorical place to remember the sugar factory in Indonesia. The photogenic and walkable place to enjoy sunrise and sunset with family and friends. There's also cafe & resto to have culinary from solo.
View on Googleit's a nice place to visit with friend/family. The place is spacious and so do the parking place. The building is very easy to be found. Inside or outside of this building is a good spot to take a tons of pictures. We can learn about this building in the previous era, we also able to learn the process if making sugar from raw to final product. they also have cafe and shop section in the end of the 'route'. I thought this place will be a boring place but I was wrong. It's a great place to go with tons of good things inside it!
View on GoogleIt's huge, clean, and there's a lot of interactive area. The guide was so kind and helpful. It's good for exploring the history of the biggest sugar factory in Asia.
