This was my very first time trying the iconic regional beef soup (soto) from Purwokerto/Sokaraja, and it was a unique culinary experience! The Experience & Customization: Traditionally, they serve this soup with rice cakes (ketupat) and colorful crackers (kerupuk) submerged straight into the bowl. When I tried the version with crackers, the flavor profile leaned very heavily toward the distinct, dominant taste of softened crackers, which wasn't quite to my personal preference—though fans of traditional crackers will absolutely love it! Pro Tip: I ordered my portion without the crackers submerged (tanpa kerupuk), and it completely elevated the dish! Removing the crackers allowed the deep, rich aroma of the tender beef to shine through completely. The Broth: Incredibly savory, bone-marrow rich, and deeply flavorful. The Condiments: Once you mix in their signature peanut paste and spicy sambal, the broth transforms into a wonderfully rich, spicy, and nutty delight. The Beef: They are extremely generous with the beef cuts—the meat is tender, flavorful, and served in very substantial portions. Verdict: An absolute must-try when visiting Sokaraja! Highly recommended to order it without crackers if you prefer a clearer, meatier broth profile!

Hands down one of the best places to experience traditional culinary in Purwokerto. Their Sroto Sokaraja is phenomenal! The broth is so flavorful, packed with tender beef chunks and traditional crackers that soak up all the goodness. Mixing in their famous peanut sauce takes the flavor to a whole new level of deliciousness. It’s a humble, busy spot, but the food comes out fast and the quality is unbeatable. If you want the real taste of Sokaraja soto, this is definitely the place to go!

This is another hidden legendary culinary spot. The specialty menu is soto, served with crackers and tender meat, complemented by a special fresh chili sauce that enhances the flavor. On top of that, this place is already halal-certified by BPJPH/MUI, so you can enjoy it with confidence. Try it—you’ll love it in the end.

Very local food, and it tasted super yummy. The meat was so tender, and they served the soto with ketupat and peanut sauce (tauco)
