Bodas Bistro: pretty place, but the food left me wondering if I expected too much. I was actually a little hesitant to write this review because I’ve had good experiences with Bodas before. Their cake was good, and when I visited Bodas, I also liked the place and their bread. So naturally, I came to Bodas Bistro with a pretty decent expectation. Unfortunately, this visit felt a little… meh. When I first arrived, there was an event going on and apparently a large part of the place was being used. The problem was, there wasn’t really any signage to indicate where guests should enter, so I ended up using the wrong door. I eventually went through another entrance inside Hutanika, only to spend a few minutes walking around. And the after I came inside I went cluelessly (again) because there was no greeter. One of the staff eventually helped me find the dining area for public and brought me the menu. The staff was actually nice, so I don’t think this was a service attitude issue. It was more about the lack of information and direction, especially while an event was happening and the restaurant was still open to the public. For the food, I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana. It was… fine. The chicken, cheese, and butter rice... with a little extra touch from Parmigiano Reggiano. But honestly, nothing about it really stood out to me. And this is where the price comes in. For a mid-range price point, I was expecting something that felt a little more special something that made me think, “Okay, I get why I paid this much.” Instead, I found myself thinking that I could probably get a similar chicken-and-cheese dish with rice at a much more ordinary place like S*laria, for a very different price point. Of course, I’m not comparing the two as restaurants they’re clearly different in concept and class. But that’s exactly the point: the food at a bistro like this should give me a reason to choose it beyond the ambience. The place itself is quite aesthetic and has a nice atmosphere. I just wish the food had given me the same impression. Maybe I simply expected more from Bodas Bistro because of my previous experiences with Bodas. But for this particular visit, the food felt like it was just… there. Pretty place, nice staff, but the overall experience needs a little more refinement especially the entrance/signage situation and, most importantly, a stronger reason for the food to justify its price. Would I come back? Maybe for the ambience or to try something else. But for the Chicken Parmigiana alone, probably not.
