The exhibits use interactive displays, digital installations, and historical artifacts to tell the story of Gedung Sate’s architecture, history, and cultural significance. The space is well-maintained, clean, and easy to navigate, making it enjoyable for all ages. It’s not a huge museum, but it’s thoughtfully curated and offers plenty of photo-worthy spots. Entrance is only 5k, and there’s also a short film about its history shown at certain times. A great stop if you’re interested in Bandung’s heritage or want a deeper appreciation for the building you’ve probably seen countless times from the outside.

Our group of five consisted of Indonesians, English- and non-English-speaking Vietnamese. Some of us were history and architecture buffs, and the level of information presented in the displays was excellent: it was convincingly rich in details and comprehensive in coverage. The narration could have been written in a more engaging way however—but to dwell on that would be needlessly nitpicking. There is a small auditorium where we could watch how the history behind Gedung Sate unfolded, and the dark days that it had endured in the 1940s. Nearing the end of the exhibition there is a VR experience involving a hot air balloon. Our biggest kudos go to our brilliantly thoughtful guide, Eno, who rightfully deserved lots of praise as he was able to answer most of our curious (and at times perhaps quirky) queries with flair and fluency. Soon enough it became obvious to us how he loved guiding and explaining to people the legacy of this historic building alongside the milieu of various eras his homeland had witnessed. To me personally, it was an honour to have him as our guide that day. All in all, a wonderful experience for those keen on architecture and wishing to learn more about West Java in colonial times.
