Batu Tulis Palace is one of the six presidential palaces owned by Indonesia.[1] Batu Tulis Palace is so named because its location is not far from the Batu Tulis Inscription site, both being on Jalan Batu Tulis, Bogor. Batu Tulis Palace is located in a historical building complex called Hing Puri Bima Sakti. The Batu Tulis Inscription was made in 1533 by Prabu Surawisesa to commemorate his father, Prabu Siliwangi.[2] The Batu Tulis Inscription is written in Old Sundanese with the stated year being 1455 Saka (1533 AD).[2] Batu Tulis Palace was built by a Dutch volcanologist named Abraham Riebeeck during the Dutch East India colonial rule. Abraham Riebeeck established a resting place as well as an observation post to observe the condition of Bogor or Buitenzorg around 1704 following the eruption of Mount Salak in 1699.[3] Currently, Batu Tulis Palace stands on an area of 3.8 hectares.[4] In 1960, Indonesian President Soekarno purchased land around Batu Tulis Palace. When deciding to buy the land, President Soekarno toured Bogor City by helicopter. When flying over the Batu Tulis area, Soekarno's heart was captivated by the land beneath which flowed the Cisadane river with a view of Mount Salak. After purchasing the land, Soekarno then asked architect RM Soedarsono to build a palace resembling Tampak Siring Palace in Bali. During the New Order era, President Soeharto changed the management rights of Batu Tulis Palace to become state property through Presidential Decree No. 2 of 1973. At the beginning of the New Order, Batu Tulis Palace became the place of exile for President Soekarno. After that, during the era of President Abdurrachman Wahid, the ownership of Batu Tulis Palace was returned to Soekarno's family.
