The museum itself is quite old school. A personal guide is available should you wish to learn more about the history. They have a huge collection of ship miniatures, real size boats, and a lookout tower. The building has windows and lookouts all across the roof, very interesting to look at. It keeps the temperature cool inside. You can go up to the attic. There is also an outdoor sitting area in the middle of the museum complex. They have 3 unique ink stamps as memorabilia, which is perfect for stamp collectors. Available at the ticket place if you'd like to stamp your journal/book. Even though I visited on a Sunday, but it was not crowded. During my visit on the 12th of July, 2026, there was a really thought-provoking temporary exhibition titled Suara dari Muara. About the lives of coastal residents in Muara Anke, an area to the north where the river meets the sea. It was a collaboration of Climate Reality Indonesia and Institut Kesenian Jakarta (IKJ). This exhibition is actually the hightlight of my visit. I ordered on-demand motorcycle taxi service (ojol) to get here, not sure whether there is any parking lot available.
View on GoogleInteresting museum about the maritime history of Jakarta. It's located in the former warehouses of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) but the exhibition goes beyond the colonial era and includes historic boat making as well Jakarta's modern maritime sector. It also houses a large collecrion of model boats, both modern and traditional boats from the different parts of Indonesia.
View on GoogleBig museum and affordable entrance fee. You will learn the transportation and trading in the seas back from pre colonial to modern days in Indonesia. There are plenty of boats you can see. Its like 3 buildings of 2 stories of exhibits. What makes it more interesting is its located in a restored port building warehouses.
View on GoogleThe Maritime Museum, a former warehouse from the Dutch East India Company (VOC), now serves as a commodity warehouse. It now showcases the history of Indonesian maritime life from the colonial era to the present. It houses several historical relics, including VOC cannons and the skeleton of a Phinisi boat
