The Batik Museum was a pleasant visit and a great way to learn about Indonesia’s rich culture. The beautiful batik collections and exhibits helped us appreciate the skill and tradition behind this art. If you’re in Jakarta, it’s definitely worth stopping by.

Museum Batik Indonesia stands proud as a magnificent, state-of-the-art cultural monument, an architectural masterpiece, and a profoundly educational heritage museum dedicated completely to the celebration, preservation, and global promotion of Indonesia's sacred textile art, Batik, which is officially certified by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The building itself is an absolute visual triumph, featuring an elegantly stylized exterior facade inspired beautifully by rolling batik textile folds and intricate traditional motifs that signal absolute prestige and high-fashion curation from the very first glance. The surrounding grounds are immaculately manicured and kept in a pristine, spotlessly clean condition that matches the high luxury standards of elite global art galleries. Stepping through the main entrance doors reveals a breathtaking, climate-controlled interior layout where soft ambient lighting illuminates spectacular, dust-free glass display cases with absolute visual harmony. The museum houses an extraordinarily rich, valuable, and comprehensive historical collection of hundreds of unique batik masterworks sourced from diverse creative production hubs across the archipelago—including rare royal court batiks from Yogyakarta and Surakarta, vibrant coastal Batik Pesisir designs from Pekalongan, and modern contemporary innovations. Every single textile gallery is structured with highly informative digital screens and clear multi-lingual informational plaques that allow history buffs, fashion students, and international tourists to explore the complex symbolism, natural dye sciences, and historical evolution of each unique pattern with absolute clarity. The defining highlight that elevates Museum Batik Indonesia to an absolute five-star standard of cultural excellence is its magnificent, fully interactive workshop studio wing, where visitors can sit comfortably at traditional wax pots (wajan) to try their hand at tracing intricate patterns using genuine copper wax pens (canting) under the patient guidance of highly skilled master artisans. The customer service team and museum curators operate with an extraordinary level of professionalism, discipline, and heartfelt warmth, delivering eloquent guided tours that leave a deep impression of national pride on your heart. With its flawless public facilities, quiet reference libraries, and unique artisanal gift shops, this museum delivers an absolute masterpiece of an educational and artistic experience.

Great museum ! Nice place to learn about the history of batik. The explanation from the guide is very clear and easy to understand. There are various type of batik from different places in Indonesia. The most important, the ticket is free 😁

A delight place for those keen to know about batik. Its compact and brief yet detailed display is suitable for those who want to know batik. A complimentary to Museum Textile, which is older & and provides tools to further study on batik & other traditional textiles in Indonesia.

One of my favourite museum in TMII.. You need to register for entry, free of charge, but i think there is a schedule (hourly) so you may need to wait for a while if you unlucky with the time.. Most of the collection come with an explanation and you will be accompanied by a guide.. Approximately 20 minutes with guide and then you can explore by yourself.. There's many installation like : Wide Screen Video, Mannequins, Lots of Kain Batik, Statue, Photographs.. You can't bring any of your luggage inside but there is a locker in the lobby..
