⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ KOKUU - TULODONG Back for my third visit to Kokuu, and once again it reminded me why it's still my favorite modern Japanese omakase in town. Beyond the exceptional food, the warm hospitality and entertaining experience always make every visit memorable. Their seasonal omakase menu, refreshed every three months, continues to showcase Kokuu's creativity and refinement. Highlights included the Chilled Uni Somen, a rich and umami-packed combination of sweet uni, uni sauce, and sakura ebi that set the tone for the meal beautifully. The Isaki Sashimi was fresh and silky with vibrant perilla notes, while the low-temperature cooked fatty tuna delivered a wonderful balance of richness, nuttiness, citrus, and gentle heat. The Whitebait Tempura paired with egg yolk truffle sauce was easily one of the most memorable bites of the evening, while the Beef Tongue & Japanese Leek Tempura demonstrated Kokuu's ability to turn unexpected combinations into something genuinely enjoyable. I also loved the Pan-Seared Sea Bream with its delicate smoky aroma and thoughtful accompaniments, as well as the perfectly executed abalone served with yuzu kosho and rich liver sauce. The refreshed Tomato Sukiyaki brought an elegant Italian touch with fresh tomato, mascarpone egg, and basil, adding a refreshing dimension to their iconic dish. Meanwhile, the Wagyu Sukiyaki with Foie Gras and Truffle Mushroom Sauce remains my personal favorite and a dish I never skip — rich, indulgent, and absolutely divine every single time. To finish, the Unagi Ochazuke was pure comfort in a bowl, combining seaweed butter rice, flavorful broth, and sweet charred unagi. Easily one of the best ochazuke I've had in Jakarta. I rarely highlight desserts at a Japanese omakase, but this season's dessert course truly deserves special recognition. Both the Hojicha Pudding and the White Shiruko with lemon coconut, shiratama, fruits, and kuromitsu were creative, balanced, and memorable — possibly the best dessert course I've experienced across all three visits. Kokuu never disappoints. If you're looking for a refined, technique-driven, and modern interpretation of Japanese omakase rather than a traditional one, this remains one of the very best omakase experiences in Jakarta.

Led by Chef Abe and Jenny, the menu leans toward a refined, modern style — Japanese ingredients elevated with French and Italian techniques for a polished, memorable expression. The courses were excellent, from the fresh katsuo tataki to the creamy ankimo, crisp unagi, and one of the most unique tempura bites I’ve ever had — smoky duck, mochi, and foie gras in a perfect one-bite umami bomb. The sukiyaki dishes were the highlight: the foie gras truffle sukiyaki is a true 10/10 luxury experience. Desserts, palate cleansers, and the wagyu rice were all comforting and well-executed. What made the night truly special was Jenny’s hospitality — warm, fun, humble, and effortlessly entertaining. Her energy added so much joy to the experience.

The ingredients taste fresh and the flavors are well-balanced — you can tell a lot of care goes into every plate. The service is also attentive without being overbearing, which makes the whole experience pleasant. That said, the price is a little bit on the steep side for what you get. While I appreciate the quality and presentation, I expected slightly more generous portions. Still, if you’re looking for a special night out and don’t mind splurging a bit, Kokuu is worth trying at least once :)
View on GoogleA Truly Unforgettable Omakase Experience at Kokuu. I had the absolute pleasure of enjoying what I can personally find to be the best omakase dining experience I’ve had in Jakarta—at Kokuu. From the moment we stepped in, the restaurant’s serene ambiance, refined interior, and warm hospitality made us feel as though we had been transported straight to Japan. Each course was carefully curated by Chef Abe with masterful attention to flavor and presentation. The ingredients were fresh, the techniques flawless, and the visual appeal of every dish was simply stunning. Jenny was a wonderful host —gracious, passionate, and incredibly friendly. They surprised us with a thoughtful birthday celebration for my husband and even gave us a small parting gift at the end of the night, which made the experience all the more special. It was an evening of exquisite food, heartfelt gestures, and genuine hospitality. I highly recommend Kokuu to anyone seeking an authentic and elevated omakase experience in Jakarta.
