We’ve been regular customers at this restaurant, visiting about 2–3 times each month. One of the main reasons we keep coming back is their sweet potato dessert — it has always been the highlight of our visit: warm, perfectly sweet, slightly crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. However, our most recent experience was very disappointing. When the sweet potato dessert was served, it was completely different from what we are used to. It was cold, hard, dry, and cut into much larger wedge-like pieces instead of the usual thinner slices. I politely asked the waiter if there had been a change in chef, as the quality was noticeably different. I was told, “Oh gak, chefnya masih sama kok.” I then asked why the dish was so different and why it was served cold. To my shock, the waiter replied, “Oh ini sisa guest yg sebelumnya kita bawa ke sini.” (This is the leftover from other guests.) I was honestly speechless. Serving leftovers from a previous guest is extremely unethical and raises serious hygiene and food safety issues. Not wanting to create a scene, we paid for our meal. Before leaving, I spoke to the manager, hoping for a more responsible response. Unfortunately, the reaction was very dismissive — just a brief, “Oh gitu. Maaf ya bu.” without any further explanation or accountability. As loyal customers, this experience was deeply disappointing. We sincerely hope the restaurant’s owner takes this seriously and improves both their food handling practices and customer service moving forward.
View on GoogleI feel like they’ve changed their concept to be more familiar and approachable for Indonesian customers? During my first visit (I went to Gayasung before 2020), the menu was very “classic Korean restaurant” — no visuals, just Hangul with simple translations. But when I checked their Google Maps recently, the menu looks much more colorful with visual descriptions now. Gayasung is one of the older Chinese–Korean restaurants in Jakarta, and they actually have more variety than their competitors (you know which brand I’m talking about 😌). For my visit, we ordered the basics: jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk — the usual trio when you go to a Korean-Chinese place for the first time hehe. The portions were pretty big, just like a typical Chinese restaurant. Jjajangmyeon: I like theirs better than the competitor. The sauce is well-balanced and not overly sweet. Jjamppong: Also good, though I personally wish it was spicier and a bit smokier. Tangsuyuk: Really nice! The meat wasn’t tough at all, and the portion was huge. I’ll definitely come back to try their newer menu items. I just saw someone review their mala cream dimsum, and now I really want to try it soon!
