Finally visited the revamped Resto Mandala which boasts stylish Shanghai ambience from bygone era with its vintage looking pictures of Chinese ladies in 1920s style, walls decorated with those calendar that you tear for each day, chinese carvings and a wall full of golden lucky cats each waving its paw. Was a bit wary of the service (expecting it to be slow), but to our pleasant surprise our order came quickly and each in a HUGE portion enough for 4-5 people. We ordered the Nasi Goreng Kepiting (Crab Fried Rice) which was simply delicious! Full of flavor and not too salty. We also ordered Kakap Kung Pao, the fish was fried in a thin batter of flour to give it a crunch when bitten and poured with sweet and sour sauce. The Garlic Kailan was fresh and crisp, the color was a beautiful mouth watering green. The Prawn Rolls in Tofu skin was okay but not what I expected. But the complimentary Pickled Cucumber was delish as before. The dishes are pricey if you look at it nominally but it’s actually a great value for money because of the huge portion. Average dishes is around Rp. 80k for veges and side dishes and 150k for main dishes such as Fried Rice or Noodle. So if you’re ordering only for two it might seem pricey - but you can always have it boxed to take home.

It’s my first time here. Come for their nasi tim ayam, super comforting and enjoyable.I also ordered stir-fried vegetables, aka capcay. Generous portion, fragrant, and well-seasoned. A typical family restaurant, which I liked.

To be honest the taste is just so-so for such chinese resto. I tried several menu including ikan Tahu Tausi, just meh :/ I think this one has nothing to do with Mandala resto at wolter monginsidi street, they only copying similar name I guess, which I don't respect such thing. Kinda overprice (even for their veggie menu) for this kind of place, location, portion, and quality of the food itself.
