It all began in 1972, Gandy Steak House was first opened to public in the Old Town Jakarta at Jl. Gajah Mada. Our authentic recipe created the famous "Steak ala Gandy" complemented with red onion pickles.

A legendary steakhouse, serving local steaks at affordable to premium prices. Served on a hot plate, the taste is nostalgic and delicious. Highly recommended for steak lovers.

Gandy Steak on Jalan Bumi is actually a branch of the legendary Jakarta steakhouse that has been around since the early 1970s, and they like to claim themselves as the ‘first steakhouse in Jakarta’. The branch at Jl. Bumi No. 40 in Kebayoran Baru has a more modern and neat interior, with a spacious room, Wi-Fi, clean toilets, and several photo spots. It is open from around 11:00 to 22:00 and is quite crowded during lunch and dinner hours because of its extensive menu, ranging from steak, soup, salad to appetisers. In terms of taste and experience, Gandy plays in the zone of ‘old Jakarta steak nostalgia’. The steak is served on a hotplate, usually accompanied by mashed potatoes or potatoes, boiled vegetables, and their signature dish: warm dinner rolls with butter as an appetiser, plus salad/pickles as a side dish. I always order one menu item when I come here: Steak Ala Gandy, described as ‘the authentic recipe of Gandy grilled beef steak served with our butter sauce’, which is essentially local tenderloin/Gandy's signature grilled beef served on a hotplate with savoury butter sauce, accompanied by potatoes (mashed or fries) and vegetables. Red onion, cucumber and chilli pickles are always available to eat with the steak, making the dining style very ‘Indonesian’. This steak has a fairly tender texture, cooked medium-well by default, with a thick butter sauce that is slightly savoury-buttery and ‘very broth-like’; it's not the super-premium dry-aged Wagyu type, but more of a nostalgic comfort food: hot meat steaming on a bed of mushrooms on the hotplate, dipped in sauce, eaten with potatoes, and occasionally paired with pickled red onions and chilli peppers. Absolutely delicious.

Love the new and clean interior at this outlet. Came during dinner and there’s only a few bread selection left. The signature fried chicken is good but not that satisfying in terms of flavour. Would recommend the fries instead of the mashed potato and for the sauce, I might try their bbq and black pepper sauce next time. The butter sauce was a tad too salty and greasy for my liking 😆

First visit to this steak house after passing it every time on the way back. Choose the australia set with soup, drinks combo and then choose medium for steak, it was sizzling hot when served, steak cooked to the level I requested and very tender yet still preserving the fattiness part. Will definitely come back but next time will go just to the steak!

Had a quick lunch here on Saturday. Quite crowded, but luckily big enough parking space. The server and waiter were very welcoming and helpful. Quick serving time. Steak is delicious. I really liked the iced lemon tea. Tried the bread from the bakery and they were okay. Would definitely come back again.
