Djakarte Soto Betawi is one of those places that feels like a proper upgrade of a classic Indonesian comfort dish without losing its roots. It’s not your typical roadside soto spot — this one leans more polished, slightly upscale, but still very grounded in flavor. The star here is obviously the Soto Betawi. The broth is rich, creamy, and full-bodied from the santan, but not overly heavy. You can really taste the depth — slightly savory, slightly sweet, with that comforting warmth that makes you slow down and enjoy every spoon. The beef is tender, and portions are generous without feeling too much. The space itself is clean and modern, with a subtle Jakarta heritage touch. It’s comfortable enough for a casual lunch but also presentable if you’re bringing someone along — kind of that middle ground between everyday makan and a proper sit-down meal. Other menu items are solid, but realistically, you come here for the soto. Pair it with emping and sambal, and it hits differently. What stands out: • consistent flavor, not watered down • good balance between traditional taste and modern setting • comforting but still “refined” Downside: • slightly pricier than typical soto spots • can feel less “authentic street vibe” if you prefer the raw version

A unique restaurant inside an old building, equipped with a prayer room as well. We came on Sunday afternoon. It was quite crowded, the restaurant has two floors, tend to hot in midday and there’s an air-conditioned room on the 2nd floor, but it’s often full, so you may need to wait for a turn if you want to sit there. The menu items we ordered were Es Toples Stroberi, Jus Mangga & Stroberi, Sop Buntut, Mie Goreng Djakarte, Gado-gado, and Poffertjes. The star was the poffertjes, creamy and buttery. The juice was too watered down. The es stroberi toples came in a smaller jar than expected haha. The sop buntut (oxtail soup) was savory and rich in spices. I forgot to ask for spicy Gado-gado, so it tasted bland, and the fried noodles were like most others, tending to be bland as well. Perfect for those who love hunting for photos of old historic buildings, lots of vintage spots to capture.
