One of the empal gentong vendors in the Grogol area opens on the roadside not far from GOR Grogol. The menu sold includes empal gentong with a choice of coconut milk broth or clear broth like garang asem broth and Cirebon's signature nasi lengko. I ordered empal gentong with coconut milk broth & clear broth filled with meat + tendon. The meat & tendon were tender and the portions were quite generous. The coconut milk broth tasted savory and the clear broth tasted sour and refreshing without any added seasoning. Wow, Bu Suni's broth recipe is truly fantastic. You can add perkedel or fried tempeh to accompany your meal. A bowl of meat + tendon is Rp 22,000, plain rice is Rp 5,000, perkedel is Rp 3,000 & fried tempeh is Rp 1,500. Motorcycle and car parking is available in front of the tent. Recommended!

Tried Bu Suni's empal gentong and the legendary one next to it. The broth is indeed spiced, but for some reason, it didn't hit the spot for me. A bit too salty. And in my opinion, it lacked coconut milk so the broth was less savory. For the broth and meat, I much prefer the one next door. The crispy fried tempeh tasted of poor quality soaking water. So it was less enjoyable to eat because there was a weird taste. The perkedel was good. Here there are 2 types of chili, chili powder and liquid chili/sambal commonly found at soto vendors in general.
