I've been to the Sushi Hiro Menteng branch about 4 times. For people who like to eat alone, Sushi Hiro is the most comfortable place, because the servers always direct you straight to the sofa options. (That’s definitely the best part of the service). But honestly, I was a bit let down during my fourth visit. I usually order the same thing three times in a row: salmon chirashi, salmon sashimi (which is amazing), and cheese nabe. But this time when the dish came out (Cheese Nabe), I started to get suspicious because: 1. The broth looked more like clear soup (not yellow like cheese) 2. It smelled like it was just kombu broth or some basic Japanese fish stock (I know my Japanese food pretty well). 3. The broth was watery. How do I know all this? I've had the "Cheese Nabe" three times in a row over the last few months. Like for me at that time it was just kombu and fish broth. So I told the server, and he went to get the manager. He took my soup to bring back to the chef, Then, about 10-15 minutes later, the server came back with the same soup 😅🥲😅. He said, « After checking with the chef, everything’s the same; it’s made according to SOP, just wait for it to boil (not really logical, but okay i’ll wait » And that’s what really disappointed me 🥲😅. I've been in the fine dining for almost 3 years and casual dining for about 2 years. Let me tell you, guests don’t care about SOP or how you handle the food, whether it’s right or wrong; they come back because of the taste they remember. If the taste doesn’t match their memories, that’s your issue to fix until they’re happy. So, I kept waiting for it to "boil," hoping it would change, but I knew it wouldn’t because the base was already messed up. But then, the manager came over; I forgot his name, but I think it was Pak. Rio. Big shoutout to Pak. Rio for doing a great job checking in with me, and after making sure about the taste, he took the soup back to the kitchen. A few minutes later, he came back with two different soups and showed me that the first one was totally wrong. This part made me feel a bit better; as someone in same Industry; I respect your manager, Pak Rio. Just a tip: the servers could use some retraining on handling complaints and knowing the standards for each dish. Servers aren’t just food runners; you guys are the front line before the food hits the table. You gotta know what the food should be like (not too watery, not skimping on the garnish, etc.). Servers need to be on point with this stuff, and you guys can complain to the kitchen staff-the chef if the food is not served as usual. Because at the end of the day, guests don’t care about your restaurant’s SOP or how you do things. They come back because they want to relive that tasty memory.

View on GoogleThis Japanese restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by how consistently impressive each dish was. The meal began with their Chicken Nanban, which immediately set the tone. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining juicy inside, and the tangy tartar-style sauce added a delightful richness that made every bite memorable. It’s easily one of the standout versions of Chicken Nanban I’ve had. Next came the Tamago Sushi, which was soft, slightly sweet, and full of subtle yet impactful flavor. The texture was delicate and fluffy—exactly what good tamago should be—and it paired beautifully with the seasoned rice. Their Miso Soup also deserves praise. Warm, comforting, and deeply savory, it had a well-balanced broth that felt authentic and satisfying without being too salty. It served as a perfect complement to the rest of the meal. To finish, I tried the Lychee Mojito, which was incredibly refreshing. The combination of lychee’s floral sweetness and the cool mint made it a light, revitalizing drink that rounded off the experience nicely. Overall, this restaurant offers flavorful, well-crafted Japanese dishes with impressive attention to detail. I would gladly return for another meal.
