We visited this turtle rescue and conservation center and overall had a really nice and interesting experience there. 🐢 You can tell that they are trying to help injured or weakened turtles while also raising awareness about protecting these animals. We especially liked that you can symbolically adopt baby turtles through a donation. The absolute highlight for us was going out to the ocean by boat together with the team and releasing the baby turtles into the sea ourselves. It was a really special moment. You also receive a small certificate as a memory afterward. 🌊 Of course, you can also see that the station is probably heavily dependent on donations and does not have unlimited resources. Some areas could be larger or more modern. Still, we had the feeling that the people there genuinely care and work with a lot of heart. Overall, it was a beautiful experience, especially for families and children, because it gives you a completely different connection to animals and ocean conservation. 🙏

TCEC is helping to educate the public about the importance of sea turtle and ocean conservation. It takes 20-50 years for a green sea turtle to reach sexual maturity and be able to reproduce which is why it is so significant that we are seeing declining numbers due to fishery, human impact, and climate change. Here you can see some of the sea turtles as they are being rehabilitated to be released back into the wild

This was an amazing experience for myself and my daughter. It is truly there for the turtles. No entry fees and they have interns and students there who will happily show you around. Our guide was a marine biologist from Java. We saw all the work they do and at no point did we feel that it was a tourist trap. The tanks are clean, the turtles looked after and you can see the work they do. At the end there is a section where you can feed the turtles.

We called in mid morning and were not sure if it was open, but the owner heard us calling out and came over and showed us through and gave us a mini tour as no other guests there. What a wonderful initiative and we both left feeling very upbeat and positive that they are doing there best to help with the turtle situation. No entry fee, small fee to pay to park and you make a donation on the way out.

The Turtle Conservation and Education Center is a meaningful initiative that helps raise awareness about sea turtles and their protection. During our visit, it cost IDR 240,000 to release a young turtle into the ocean. The way the releases are organised is somewhat debated, so it is worth reading about the process and forming your own opinion. Overall, it was an educational and memorable experience.
