During my stay in Ubud in October 2025, I often took the Penestanan Stairs to walk from my hotel in Penestanan Village to downtown Ubud. The stairs are beautiful, shaded by canopy trees with lovely statues lining the path. I really enjoyed the scenery along the way. However, the stairs are quite steep for me, and I needed to stop several times to catch my breath—clearly I need more exercise! But despite that, the walk was still enjoyable and memorable.

If you are wondering Bali for seeking nothing but just to get lost. This is the perfect route. Go upstairs and follow your heart. They will lead you to peaceful and beauty of a hidden village in Ubud. And try the way to Yellow Flower Cafe, both the destination and the journey are amazing

Convenient shortcut to Penestanan area and well lit even at night. At the bottom of the stairs is also a bale/banjar (pavilion) where grab drivers frequently rest, so you can book directly with them instead of through the app.

Great place to visit- go up the stairs- all the way, turn right and follow the path by the river. And then there will be stairs on the left- go down by the river and see all these carvings. Very special place.

This a great path through the village and villas between the Sayan area and the top of central Ubud. Many coffee shops (calling out Made’s kopi) along the way and look out for the side path to Yellow Flower at the top of the steps for organic locally grown food and coffee and great vibes.
