There's only one dish on the menu here: a set that comes with rice, fried fish, and fish head soup. I originally thought the fish tasted like yellowtail, but after asking the staff, it turns out they use Giant Trevally. The fried fish was super crispy on the outside with firm, juicy meat—a squeeze of lime makes it even better. Don't let the name "Fish Head Soup" scare you off! The meat is super soft and tender, and the soup is packed with a rich, deep fish broth. Definitely worth a try!

A Timeless Bali Classic Serving generations of diners since 1941, Warung Mak Beng is proof that you don’t need an extensive menu to create an unforgettable dining experience. On our first visit, we finally discovered why this humble eatery has become one of Bali’s most iconic culinary institutions. The meal is beautifully simple: crispy fried fish, fragrant fish soup, steamed rice, and their signature sambal. The fish was exceptionally fresh, with delicate, flaky flesh encased in a perfectly golden, crisp coating. The soup was the standout for me—a clear, aromatic broth layered with the natural sweetness of fresh fish, balanced by fragrant herbs and gentle spices. Paired with the fiery sambal, every spoonful was comforting, vibrant, and deeply satisfying. The waitresses were warm, friendly, and genuinely helpful, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. Despite the constant stream of diners, service was impressively efficient, and our meal arrived quickly. The restaurant buzzes with energy yet retains the charm of a long-established local institution. Watching families, regulars, and travellers all enjoying the same iconic meal makes it easy to understand how Warung Mak Beng has remained a beloved destination for more than eight decades. If you’re in Sanur, Warung Mak Beng deserves a place on your food itinerary. Since 1941, it has built its reputation on doing one thing exceptionally well: serving fresh, honest seafood with consistently outstanding flavour. Sometimes the simplest meals are the most memorable—and this is certainly one of them.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Visited Warung Mak Beng around 9:30 in the morning and it wasn’t too crowded yet, so the experience was very comfortable. Parking was also quite easy to find. The menu is simple ; fried fish, fish soup, and sambal, but everything tasted really good and fresh. The soup was flavorful and the sambal added the perfect kick. Definitely a must-try local food spot in Bali!

This is a place widely known for its typical spicy fish dish. The service is regular because it takes a long time to take and deliver the order, the restaurant is too hot and does not have good ventilation without air conditioning. On weekends the site can be extremely crowded and the wait is very long. I believe that in Bali there are better places to enjoy local cuisine. The food is actually very cheap.

Came here alone by bike in the morning to try their fried fish and fish head soup. It was just after 9 AM and the place was already almost full, with a long queue of people waiting for tables. Luckily, since I was dining alone, I could share a table and got seated quickly — ordered right away without any hassle. Looking at the photos on the wall and the bustling crowd, I could already feel people's love for this place even before taking my first bite. Lots of locals were here with their families, and everyone's plates were scraped clean. Food came out pretty quickly, but be prepared — it's busy. The meal was simple yet delicious. Definitely lives up to its reputation as a local specialty. The fried fish was crispy and fragrant. The soup had a strong ginger flavour, scallion oil, and maybe a hint of lemongrass. The plain white rice paired perfectly with their standout chilli sauce — the real game changer. I was sweating the whole time eating, but I finished every bit and even packed some to take home for my family. At the checkout, I also bought two bags of their homemade prawn crackers — really tasty. If you're a tourist staying near the beach, hopping on a bike and riding over to the pier is a great food option. Highly recommend!
