A Hidden Gem in Pemuteran – The “Helicopter” Site Whilst staying in northern Bali, we spotted this place on Google Maps listed as “Helicopter” and decided to check it out. It was only a 10-minute walk (or 2 minutes by scooter) from where we were staying in Pemuteran. We left a small donation at the temple car park and followed the short path uphill. Within five minutes, a strange sight came into view – a pylon-like tower with what looked like a helicopter perched on top, as if it had crash-landed. Curiosity got the better of us, so we veered off the path through the shrubbery (stick in hand for any creepy-crawlies or snakes) and reached the base. From there, the climb began. A ladder made from scaffolding bars led straight up the 30-meter structure. It felt much higher with the hillside dropping away beneath us! My teenager made it all the way up, tackling even the final 45-degree angled section to reach the little helicopter. I chose to stop lower down — the view was already incredible and the adrenaline rush enough for me. On reflection, it seems like this might be an old army training structure for abseiling from helicopters, rather than a tourist attraction. But that’s what made it special — quirky, hidden, and definitely memorable. Not for the faint-hearted, but if you enjoy a bit of adventure and a unique view over Pemuteran, this little “hidden gem” is worth the detour.

This place made my evening. I found it randomly and it was so much fun to climb up. Highly recommend.

If you are lacking in adventure (and money) come and see this perched helicopter for free. To get there I parked in front of the temple entrance and went to see the gentleman who lives in the house right next door. He let me pass through his garden to access the helicopter which is a little further away (count not even 3 minutes). If the view from below does not suit you and your courage is big enough you can easily climb the structure using a large ladder. You will then arrive in the rusted helicopter and can admire a view of the sea on one side and the mountains on the other. Although the ladder looks solid I didn't feel as safe inside the helicopter but maybe I'm too paranoid. Good visit!

Wanted to climb into the helicopter, but it's still a bit too high and a bit scary. I'm glad there are no tourists around at all
