View on GoogleOne of the most popular restaurant & bars in Guangzhou with both locals and expats. They have a good collection of beers, wines and other drinks along with great options for finger food and meals. The staff is also helpful and may suggest you drinks based on your preference. Do visit if you are looking for some good drinks & food and for a relaxed atmosphere.
View on GoogleWent on a Sunday night around midnight, so I can't really judge the atmosphere. Nevertheless, the servers were super kind and made a great effort to fully understand what we wanted. We had the beef slices, chicken wings, and Frefrench fries, they were all fantastic and cooked to their point. The beer selection is very nice.

View on GoogleOk, after a few days of the usual Chinese fare and surroundings I thought I look for something “western” and found the Happy Monk on the internet. Looked ok, so I ventured out with my VNPd GoogleMap. Little did I know. Google Maps are WAY off in China for national security (???) reasons, so it took me quite a while to even find the place. In the end a combination of Apple maps (!) and some gut feeling led me to the Happy Monk. Ok place, very pub-like (and that’s what I needed that evening), AND THEY ACCEPT (non-Chinese) CREDIT CARDs!!! EVERONE in China pays with their phones, and credit cards and ATMs will be the phone booths of the 2020s here, definitely. But I digress. The pub is nice, with a mix of native and expat/tourist crowd. They have eight beers on draft, none of them Chinese, which I found a bit sad, but ok. Large Carlsberg is 35 CNY, large Heineken 45 CNY. Ok. The music is 100% western. Three screens, all showing music videos, no sports (but maybe there was nothing going on that night). Staff very friendly, but a bit difficult to communicate with. However, that seems to be THE service sector problem for us non-Chinese here. So, if you crave for some western atmosphere, come.
