The Vibe Tucked away in a lively alley filled with halal eateries, this two-storey spot is simple and unpretentious. The ground floor is a casual dining room, while upstairs offers private rooms for groups. It’s family-friendly and bustling – don’t expect fancy decor, but the energy is genuine and welcoming. The Food – What to Order · Boiled Premium Lamb (Shou Zhua): The signature dish. Juicy, tender chunks of lamb with skin and bone, simply boiled. The pure flavour shines through – pair it with raw garlic for a punchy kick. · Heyan Flat Noodles: Hand-pulled or wide flat noodles, chewy and satisfying. A great side to soak up the lamb juices. · Dongxiang Stir-fried Chicken: A Northwestern twist on stir-fried chicken – savoury, slightly spicy, and very comforting. · Eight-Treasure Tea: A must-order drink. Fragrant, slightly sweet, and balances the richness of the lamb perfectly. Overall Thoughts This is not fine dining, but it doesn’t need to be. Sa Er Ta Dongxiang delivers honest, flavour-packed Xinjiang/Dongxiang cooking that has earned its Bib Gourmand status. The lamb is the star – fresh, well-prepared, and full of character. This restaurant was the highlight of my trip to Guangzhou. The stewed lamb made it all worth it. I travelled here during Ramadhan and was so worried about where I would be able to fulfill my cravings after a long day of fasting. Alhamdulillah, it was amazing! The staff was very kind as well, notified me when it was time to break fast. I did however have trouble looking for the place at first.
