Its a pretty good place to shop for fashion items. Plenty of trendy clothes and fashion shops to visit with good discounts. Streets well maintained and easy to walk. We find the the prices here slightly more reasonable comparing with Beijing road shop. There were also many eateries to choose from. Further down the road, its will lead to Yongqingfong, another popular place to visit whilenin guangzhou. Nice to visit.
View on GoogleShangxiajiu Street (上下九商业步行街) is a busy pedestrian area that gives you a straightforward look into older Guangzhou. The street has a long history as a major commercial center dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. As you walk through, you will see the distinctive Lingnan Qilou (骑楼) architecture, which features covered arcades that are highly practical for keeping out of the sun and rain. Food is the main reason to spend time here, as the area is packed with established spots. For traditional dim sum and local dishes, Tao Tao Ju Chang Di Dian (陶陶居酒家) is a classic choice in the district. There are also a few locations for Lian Xiang Lou (莲香楼) around the area, especially its HQ just a stone throw away from Tao Tao Ju. If you want a traditional sweet, Nanxin Milk Desserts Expert (南信牛奶甜品专家) is located directly on the main street and serves excellent local milk puddings. The retail shops mostly sell cheap clothes and basic goods, making it better for casual browsing rather than serious shopping. You will be covering a lot of ground on hard pavement here, so bringing a pair of lightweight, wide-foot-friendly walking shoes makes the visit much more comfortable. It is a good place to see daily local life and eat well.
View on GoogleI revisited Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street summer 2025 after nearly 20 years, and it was fascinating to see how it has evolved. The streets are noticeably wider, cleaner, and more modern, and it’s not as overwhelmingly crowded as I remember. At the same time, it still preserves the classic Qilou architecture — with covered walkways at street level that shelter you from rain and sun, and upper levels that feel like traditional living quarters. The area is still a great place to explore authentic Cantonese food and local delicacies. You’ll find time-honored brands and snack shops (the Cantonese sausages are a highlight). That said, parts of the street feel like a work in progress, with some construction and a bit of noise that can interrupt the atmosphere. It’s not perfect, but it’s clearly improving while trying to keep its historic charm. Overall, a nostalgic and worthwhile visit
View on GoogleShangxiajiu Commercial Pedestrian Street is a must-visit when in Guangzhou! The atmosphere is vibrant and full of life, with a great mix of traditional Cantonese architecture and modern shops. There’s a huge variety of local street food, souvenirs, and affordable shopping options. I especially enjoyed walking through the lively streets and trying different snacks—it really gives you a taste of local culture. The place is clean, well-organized, and perfect for both shopping and sightseeing. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to experience the energy and charm of Guangzhou!
View on GoogleI recently visited Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street (上下九步行街) in Guangzhou. Compared to Beijing Road, it’s noticeably less crowded, which makes the walking experience much more relaxed and enjoyable. The street still has a lively atmosphere with many shops, local snacks, and traditional Cantonese restaurants. I really liked the historic Lingnan-style arcaded buildings that line the street—they give the area a unique charm and make it feel more cultural and traditional compared to some of the more commercial shopping areas. During Chinese New Year, there was also a festive food bazaar along the street, with lots of seasonal snacks and holiday treats. It added a really nice celebratory vibe to the whole area. Overall, it’s a great place to explore if you want to enjoy Guangzhou’s culture, food, and architecture without dealing with huge crowds.
