This museum is dedicated to Cantonese opera, and it does a wonderful job showcasing this important part of Guangdong’s cultural heritage. The architecture of the complex is stunning, designed like a traditional Lingnan garden with elegant pavilions, bridges, courtyards, and small waterways. Walking through the grounds almost feels like visiting a classical Chinese garden rather than a typical museum. Inside, there are exhibits about the history of Cantonese opera, including costumes, props, instruments, and displays explaining the art form. Even if you are not very familiar with Cantonese opera, it’s still very interesting to learn about its traditions and significance.
View on GoogleCantonese Opera Art Museum - not so interested in Chinese Opera to be honest - so the museum part kind of past me by - but outside in the gardens and by the lakes and ponds, and with the Chinese traditional architecture - that was another thing - very interesting, very beautiful and a lovely place to sit down and take it all in - under a nice shade in the very hot day that it was. A nice peaceful oasis in the busy city of Guangzhou. Looks nice at night too. Expect to see many young ladies dress up in period pieces - many!
View on GoogleIt is a stunning hidden gem in Guangzhou that beautifully pairs a world-class exhibition of cultural heritage with breathtaking, authentic Lingnan-style water gardens. Walking through this area offers the possibility tolisten to classical recordings and marvel at exquisite opera costumes, making it an absolute must-visit for anyone looking to connect with local history and local architecture.
